So, I found this video in my personal archive of work. Having recently re-kindled my love affair with Final Cut Pro, I find myself in unfamiliar territory. It’s been around 6 years since I last used the programme at college. Looking back over what I could do, I am filled with both nostalgia and disappointment. The fact that at one stage through my journey of education I was considerably more capable than I am now is an obvious regret. However, it does fill me with a quiet confidence that I could learn from past experience, attempt to take something I once knew and develop it further.
Made circa 2006, I took my footage from three different films as part of a college project to produce a music video. I also used a small amount of original footage. The song is called ‘Upon this Tidal Wave of Young Blood’, it is by the American five-piece, ‘Clap Your Hands Say Yeah’. I chose my footage carefully to suit the lyrics which are about the inevitable decline of child stars.
The films I chose all feature child stars, many of who, encountered difficulties in teenage life, drug problems, convictions and in the odd case, early death. All of the films are well worth a watch. They are: Kids (1995), City of God (2002) and Stand By Me (1986). The last two being two of my favourite films of all time.
